An actor, the Cambridge dictionary says, is "someone who pretends to be someone else while performing in a film, play, or television or radio program."
So why would you make someone who's pretending to be someone else a celebrity?
Here's where you have grown distinguishing actors into types such as Amateur, Aspiring and Accomplished.
The first known actor among humans was probably Thespis.
According to Greek historians, including philosopher Aristotle, Thespis was the first person to step on a stage and enact a character in a play, thus becoming designated as the first actor.
We now have Hollywood leading the movie world. This is the place where actors are reared from amateur, aspiring to accomplished, then revered.

It cited a picture collage circulated widely in the social media showing the two-time Academy Award winner as wearing an electronic tagging on his right ankle as proof of his arrest. The news of Hanks and his wife testing Covid-19 positive and in quarantine was claimed to be an attempt to cover up his time in custody.

The actor himself jokes about this. In an interview with The Guardian, Hanks said: "Look, I’ve played a lot of captains. Captain Jim Lovell [in Apollo 13]; Capt Richard Phillips [in Captain Phillips]; Capt Sully Sullenberger [in Sully]; Capt Miller in Saving Private Ryan."
